An ideal place to display jades, porcelain, and other esteemed scholars' objects, this tall cabinet likely stood as the centerpiece of a traditional scholars' studio, carefully selected as a source of beauty and creative inspiration. Constructed with clean lines using mortise-and-tenon joinery, the cabinet features straight legs, two interior shelves, and a slightly overhung top. Beautiful details elevate the simple design, including chrysanthemum-form hinges, dovetail key repairs, and a richly patinated full moon lock plate.

The doors are textured by traces of the original painted decoration depicting palatial courtyard structures within a mountainous landscape. Largely intact, but heavily crazed, the red lacquer coating's time-weathered appearance lends the cabinet a treasured sense of history.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
