This antique French commode is crafted in the Louis XV Provincial style and dates to the mid- to late-18th century. This example takes its design from early French commodes known as commodes en tombeaux, or chests of drawers, characterized by their low statures, short legs, and clearly defined drawers.

The cabinet has three wide drawers, each carved with three inset cartouches framing brass drop handles and elaborate brass keyhole escutcheons. The top is shaped with a scalloped front edge, the sinuous line continued across the expansive cabinet front in the carved drawers and apron. Beautifully aged with a rich patina and signs of wear, this gorgeous antique commode is wonderful in modern interiors as a dresser or sideboard.
