Autumn Moon Stool

The stool is a central fixture of Chinese furniture culture. Dated to the early 20th century, this rustic stool charms with a simple splayed-leg design and well-worn finish. Crafted of northern elm (yumu) with mortise-and-tenon joinery, without the use of nails or screws, the stool features a large round seat and four splayed legs linked by straight stretchers. The original lacquer finish has weathered beautifully over a century of use and now textures the stool's timeless form with subtle traces of red. Reminiscent of the autumn full moon, the stool's expansive top surface doubles as a side table, the perfect perch for a drink or a stack of books.
