Known as a calligrapher’s table, this expansive 19th-century table offered a scholar ample surface space to paint or practice calligraphy. In order to cultivate uncluttered and inspiring surroundings, only a few carefully arranged objects would have been placed upon the table, such as a brush pot, inkstone, or table screen.

The waisted table has a floating panel top supported by four straight legs. Minimally decorated, the table is accented by decorative spandrels carved in the shape of swirling clouds and auspicious ruyi, symbols of good fortune. Cloaked in beautifully aged black lacquer, this gorgeous table adds grandeur and elegance to a work space or dining room.
