Oval Top Pedestal Table

Dated to the 19th century, this oval tea table is a lightweight variation of the classic English pedestal table. First popularized during the Georgian period (1714-1837), pedestal tables such as this were used for taking hot drinks and featured a tilt top that could be folded down to make space when not in use.

This small pedestal table features a single column support decorated with simple baluster turnings and beaded rings, ending in a tripod base of flat-sided cabriole legs. The attenuated shape of the cabriole legs and the absence of feet give the table a more delicate presence, as does the thinness of the oval top. Minimally decorated, the table's timeless form fits seamlessly into traditional and modern interiors alike.
