Inspired by Chinese architectural design, the basic form of the recessed-leg painting table has gone unchanged for centuries. This gorgeous console table honors the traditional form with minimal decoration and balanced proportions. Dated to the mid-18th century, the long table features an expansive floating panel top, ideal for displaying painted scrolls or works of calligraphy. Crafted using mortise-and-tenon joinery methods, the table has a simple silhouette that showcases the beautiful grain and warm coloring of Chinese northern elm (yumu).
