Dated to the mid-19th century, this long offering table has all the classic features of a traditional recessed-leg painting table. The table has a broad floating-panel top and straight, round legs linked with double stretchers and topped by simple spandrels. A thick layer of cinnabar-red lacquer coats the exterior, now beautifully worn to reveal the northern elm (yumu) underneath. Large tables such as this were multipurpose, used as domestic altars, work tables, or scholars' desks for painting and writing. Minimally decorated, this long table anchors a space with grand proportions and bright color.

The table has been recently finished with a protective clear coat.
