The beautifully carved bands around this 19th-century keeper's trunk from Northern China are rounded to mimic the iron that would traditionally bind a slatted washing tub. With its unusual oval form and partially removable lid, secured by a small brass lock, this finely-made trunk was likely used by a merchant to store and secure his keep. Coated in richly aged red and black lacquer, this trunk is a charming addition to the home as a side piece or coffee table.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
