This short bench from Hebei province exemplifies rustic style with its simple design and wonderfully aged surface. Constructed of northern elm (yumu) using mortise-and-tenon joinery methods, the bench features splayed legs made of scrap wood and a seat comprised of a repurposed architectural beam. Used as casual outdoor seating in a courtyard home, the sturdy bench may have doubled as a barricade to secure the home's tall courtyard doors. We love this bench for the richly weathered texture that reveals its storied past.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
