This elegant console table originated in China's Shanxi province and dates to the early 20th century. This style of narrow side table is also known as a wine table and was frequently used for serving food, tea, or wine. The waisted table has a floating-panel top and straight legs stabilized by giant's arm braces. A finely beaded edge runs along the apron and down each leg to the decorative hoofed feet. Crafted of northern elm (yumu) using mortise-and-tenon joinery methods, the table is darkened by a richly aged lacquer finish with gorgeous warm undertones.
