Dated to the mid-19th century, this small, round tray was likely once used as a shallow offering bowl atop a home altar. Comprised of finely woven bamboo sides and a thin wooden base, the plate is coated with dark black lacquer and decorated with a gilt landscape. The idyllic scene features a tiered pagoda amidst swaying trees and rocky outcroppings, and a fisherman navigating a quiet river in the foreground. Richly aged from centuries of use, this tray has a beautiful metallic glimmer when it catches just the right light.
