Double Gourd Meditation Stone Table

This long, stone top table exemplifies Organic Modern style with an emphasis on natural materials. The irregular shape and patterning to the stone slab top evokes the complexities of nature, comprised of white marble marked by currents of light green, red-brown and black mineral inclusions. Unearthed in Jiangsu province, the stone slab has been polished to accentuate its mottled coloring and is elevated by a reclaimed wood two-leg base for use as a coffee table.

Composed of solid silver maple, each leg was sculpted by a local Chicago artisan who power carves with handheld tools to create unique spherical forms. The irregular shapes accentuate the table's wabi-sabi feel, with one leg of oblong form and the other shaped as a double gourd, a symbol of healing and the unity between heaven and earth.

This sculptural table consists of three separate pieces. The stone slab is not affixed to the wooden legs and its heavy weight keeps it stable. The slab weighs approximately 400 lbs.
