This two-door chest was originally the upper compartment of a tall compound cabinet. Placed as the centerpiece of the home, compound cabinets were used to store household textiles, with hats and out-of-season clothing stowed in the upper half. We've set this upper compartment on a custom steel base to stand alone as a wide cabinet or sideboard. Crafted of elmwood reclaimed from 19th-century Chinese buildings, this contemporary iteration honors traditional cabinet forms with clean lines, simple wood panels, and full moon brass hardware.
