This 19th-century altar table from northern China has a minimal form cloaked in layer upon layer of brilliant red lacquer. Tinted red with the addition of cinnabar, lacquer enhances with glossy color and protects the wood beneath from water and heat damage. This narrow altar has a rectangular table top and four straight legs linked by bottom stretchers. Subtly curved edges create a ribbon effect, reminiscent of an unfurling scroll. We love how the opaque, bright red finish accentuates this table's clean lines and streamlined form.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
