Designed to be versatile and portable, Japanese tansu chests were multipurpose storage cabinets that moved throughout the home as needed. This petite chest was originally the upper compartment of a large step tansu, known as kaidan-dansu, which doubled as a low staircase to reach overhead storage spaces. Built with two drawers and a central compartment, the tansu is cleverly designed to allow its contents to be accessed from either side. In keeping with its refined form, the tansu is minimally decorated to emphasize the gorgeous patterning of its keyaki (zelkova wood) construction.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
