Upon discovering a weathered steel drum that had been warped to resemble the sleeve of a garment, artist Gordon Chandler was inspired to embark on a series of kimono sculptures formed from found metal scraps. With an eye to the aesthetic possibilities of this humble material, Chandler invests reclaimed steel with sculptural fluidity and a wry sense of form.

In this petite sculpture, steel salvaged from an industrial barrel is transformed into a makeshift garment with a just few careful folds. Resembling a moth or a "little lemon slice," as the artist describes it, this steel cape charms with balanced form and small scale. The miniature jacket has a bright yellow coated finish, patterned with embossed text and wabi-sabi rusted texture. The artist's name and date of creation have been stamped onto a small steel garment label secured to the collar.
