This charming necklace features a large Sino-Tibetan repoussé prayer bead shaped in the form of a pomegranate, a common offering fruit and a symbol of perpetuity. Dated to the 19th century, this silver charm was believed to protect the wearer from bad luck and malevolent spirits. The charm is affixed to a silver necklace chain strung with colorful beads carved from coral, turquoise, and bone.

From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
