This hand-painted carpet design provides a glimpse at the artistic process behind the Art Deco rugs produced in China in the 1920s and ‘30s. Intricately painted with delicate brushstrokes, the monochrome composition would have been developed for one of the many foreign manufacturers based in Tientsin, China to produce rugs for clamoring markets in Europe and America.
