This late 19th century jar takes its rounded shape from serving tureens used to serve soups and stews. Contrasted by a crisp white field, the jar is decorated with a lively scene of children at play in a courtyard garden. Accompanied by a man and woman, the children are each playing with a different toy, including a kite, a reed organ, and a ruyi scepter, a symbol of masculinity.

From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.

Jar is missing its original lid.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
