Finely crafted of lacquered elmwood, this stone top writing desk once stood centerpiece in the luxurious office of a well-to-do professional of the late Qing-dynasty. Known as a partner's desk or doctor's desk, the elegant writing table is a 19th-century iteration of the three-part pedestal table, comprised of a plank top surface on two rectangular pedestals.

Minimally decorated, the beauty of this grand desk lies in its expansive top inlaid with puddingstone, a conglomerate stone favored by Chinese scholars for centuries for its captivating natural appearance. Each pedestal base is fitted with two shallow drawers and decorated with beaded edges, simple spandrels and scrolled feet.
