Silver Filigree Drinking Cup

This 20th century European silver cup holder, set with a glass tumbler, boasts an exquisitely detailed filigree mount and scrolled handle. Relics of ancient filigree design have been found in Mesopotamia, dating the pressed metal technique as far back as 3,000 BC. This drinking cup mount has a stylized border with a botanical scroll work pattern atop a grid cut out. The glass cup perfectly fits into the silver casing with an etching of a grape motif, embellished with smooth, vine-like curves.
