This carved wooden panel was once a part of the railing to a grand Qing-dynasty daybed or canopy bed enclosure. Expertly crafted, the panel displays a beautiful relief carving with intricate details of courtly life. At the center of the panel, a royal figure sits upon his throne as he receives various adoring visitors. Surrounding the scene is a collection of beautiful objects, including stone drums, elaborate altar tables and porcelain vases filled with lavish floral arrangements. A guardian fu lion dog sits at one end of the scene, symbolizing protection and power. Along the top of the panel are two carvings of potted sunflowers, as well as two small fu dogs with their tongues playfully hanging out.
