An unusual and charming antique, this 20th century Chinese charm was once used to adorn the embroidered crown of a traditional children's hat. Amulets such as this were worn on hats to bring the wearer good fortune, imbuing the child with important qualities such as wealth, health, happiness, and success. This repoussé figure is made of silver-toned metal, perhaps modeled after a Chinese deity. He holds a scroll-like object and wears a special headdress and flowing robe. The charm was made hollow with small holes on the bottom and sides where it would've been sewn to the garment.
