Since ancient times, apothecaries around the world have been using mortar and pestles like this one to grind medicinal herbs. This finely crafted and sculptural vessel was cast in iron in the early 1900s and would have been indispensable to a Korean doctor in preparing remedies for indigestion, high fevers, headaches and other maladies. With the pestle this is a solid, earthy addition to your decor, without the pestle we love to reimagine these mortars as sculptural jardinieres.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
