Basket making is an ancient and humble craft, but in the hands of a skilled weaver a simple reed basket can become a truly beautiful work of art. Hand-made in the Philippines, this lidded basket was once used for harvesting crops or carrying personal belongings as a backpack. The basket is beautifully woven of thin strips of bamboo in a twill pattern, reinforced by vertical bamboo rods tied to a wooden base. With warm color and a richly aged texture, this vintage basket is wonderful as a decorative object or an unusual storage solution.
