Along with paper, ink, and inkstone, the brush was part of the Four Treasures found in a scholar’s studio. Arguably the most important tool, the brush served as a direct link to the artist’s creative spirit. This 19th-century calligraphy brush would have once been used to write official documents or compose poetry. The brush handle is made of carved animal bone, darkened with a light stain to bring out its ridged texture. This fantastic calligraphy brush has been restored with replacement horse-hair bristles.

What They're Saying

Elizabeth Krueger | Elizabeth Krueger Design

“PAGODA RED was extremely supportive in helping to pull accessory options together for the Lake Forest Showhouse. After providing them with details and our vision on how we were looking to finish our space, Laurene helped curate options that made it easy for us to edit and finalize. It's also no surprise that the unique pieces we used in our showhouse space were some of the first to sell.”
