This monumental Indonesian rice bed was once used daily as both a storage coffer and a bed platform. The expansive top opens by two small hinged doors to reveal a spacious interior compartment for storing clothing, bedding, or dry goods such as rice and grain. During the day, the coffer could be used as seating or as a tabletop, and at night it was cushioned with bedding as a place to rest. Hand-crafted of teak wood and minimally decorated, the coffer puts the natural beauty of its material on full display. The top showcases a beautiful wood grain and the sides are simply carved in relief with large chrysanthemum medallions. Ideal as a coffee table or daybed, we love this rice bed for its impressive scale and rustic, chiseled texture.
